delta

i first became aware of the term “delta” to denote a stage in the development of software through my (albeit somewhat marginal) involvement in testing my favourite software, macjournal, developed by dan schimpf

one of the side effects of doubt is the problem of producing something which you can confidently say is truly finished or complete – so how do we work with that as a tool…? well we incorporate it into the process and into the productnow to even to produce something which can be called “beta” is problematic, and as for “alpha” – well … i find that a little … well … too close to “beta”, and “beta” is a meaningless term used ever more frequently to give the impression of modesty or humility where none exists, by indicating something is not quite ready, like those “under construction” signs you used to see on people’s websites a lot, and i mean how long has gmail been “beta”?but the concept of “delta” is beautiful : for some reason someone somewhere discovered the need to indicate that something is in such an embryonic state of development that the version cannot even be called “alpha”

i am comfortable here … this is where my doubt can run free … nowhere is my doubt as acceptable as in the delta version of my own experimental website – and this is a great practical example of turning doubt to your advantage

so to begin with : what you are looking at is a page on the delta version of the latest incarnation of my ephemera blog
